About
From countless nights spent in the darkroom to long days at the computer, Rayon Richards is committed to crafting the finest possible image, regardless of the camera he uses. Whether capturing a portrait of a renowned figure, an unsung world-changer, or the interiors of a grand estate with sweeping urban views, each photograph is thoughtfully composed to tell a story, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the moment.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts' BFA Photography program, Rayon’s work was first published in 2001, marking the end of his freshman year. Now, over two decades into his career, he boasts an extensive portfolio and a distinguished client list, including House Beautiful Magazine, Architectural Digest, Benjamin Moore Paint, Viacom, Sony Music, The Wall Street Journal, Foot Locker, Lincoln Motor Company, and Soho House.
Rayon’s passion as a portrait and interior design photographer is fueled by his connection with people and the environments they create. When asked about alternative career paths, he shared that he might have pursued interior design or psychology—fields that have long fascinated him and deeply influence his photographic focus. This intersection of interests drives his work, resulting in compelling portraits and evocative images that capture the essence of a home.
Every photographic opportunity brings Rayon a chance to learn more about himself, his craft, and those he photographs. With his images featured on over 100 magazine covers, numerous record albums, multiple commercial campaigns, and five coffee table books, his contributions to visual storytelling are significant. His most recent honor is being named one of the 100 approved interior photographers by Architectural Digest, solidifying his status in the industry.
When he’s not behind the camera, he expresses his creativity through writing, illustration, and various fine art mediums that originally inspired his passion for photography. He enjoys bowling, organizes his life with meticulous spreadsheets, and often shares intriguing, unsolicited facts about New York City’s history.
"I love what I do and I'm just here to have a good time and collect a few memories along the way."
